Sound familiar?

The problem usually isn't a bad dog.

Most of the dogs we meet aren't broken — they're missing exposure, structure, and clear communication from the people around them. That's fixable, and it's rarely as far gone as it feels.

  • Pulls so hard on the leash that walks aren't worth it

  • Barks, lunges, or freezes around other dogs and people

  • Won't settle or can't be left alone without stress

  • Ignores you the moment there's a real distraction

  • Nervous or reactive in places it hasn't been exposed to

Worried about a bite or aggression?

If your dog has bitten, snapped, or you're concerned about safety, please don't book online. Send us a message and Shanandor will review your situation personally before anything is scheduled. We take these cases seriously and handle them by hand.

How we train

The biggest behavior problem may not be disobedience — it may be isolation.

01

Exposure & socialization

A dog can't feel confident in an environment it has never experienced. We build calm through real-world exposure, not a quiet training room.

02

Clear communication

Training isn't only commands — it's communication. We teach the dog what you're actually asking, and teach you how to ask it consistently.

03

Owner participation

You're part of the training, not a spectator. The habits that hold are the ones you can keep going between sessions.

04

Trust, not fear

The goal is guidance the dog can rely on — balance, patience, and fairness — so behavior improves because the dog trusts you, not because it's afraid.

Out in the real world

Confidence is built where the dog actually lives — not in a quiet room.

Client results

Real dogs, real owners.

The trainer

Meet Shanandor Stubbs.

Shanandor is the owner and lead training instructor at Dog's Best Friend. He handles the advanced work — behavior modification, obedience, service-dog and public-access training, and the tougher assessments — and he's built relationships across the K-9 and law-enforcement community here in The Bahamas. He's a believer in never letting the learning stop.

After an injury put him out of action, he saw how much of the business rested on him alone — so he's built a real team and real systems around the training, so clients are looked after whether or not he's the one on the field that day.

"Don't go where you can't swim."

It's how he runs things: know the limits of your expertise, understand what you're taking on, and prepare before you head into deeper water. It's also why safety and honesty come before a quick sale.

Good questions

Frequently asked

Where do you work, and are there travel fees?

We're based in New Providence and serve select locations throughout The Bahamas. Base prices apply in New Providence; services on other islands may add transportation, airfare, accommodation, and scheduling fees. We'll always give you a custom quote before you book.

Does my dog need to be vaccinated?

Yes. Dogs must be vaccinated before we provide services, and we'll ask you to confirm vaccination status during booking.

How involved do I need to be?

Involved. The results that last are the ones you can keep up between sessions, so owner coaching is part of how we work. We'll show you exactly what to do — and what to stop doing.

My dog has shown aggression or bitten someone. Can you help?

Often, yes — but these cases don't go through online booking. Message us with the details and Shanandor will review your situation personally before anything is scheduled. We won't promise an outcome sight unseen, and we'll be honest about what's realistic.

Do you guarantee results?

No honest trainer can. Progress depends on the dog, the owner, and consistency over time. What we commit to is straight assessment, real methods, and telling you the truth about what's achievable.

How do I pay, and is a deposit required?

We accept cash and bank transfer, in Bahamian or U.S. dollars. A reservation deposit is required to hold your appointment.

Do you train service dogs?

We offer service-dog and public-access training, with a stricter intake process. We don't issue or sell service-dog certification, and we'll set clear, honest expectations up front. Reach out and we'll explain how it works.
